Report Fannie and Freddie Ignored Warnings on Potential Problem Loans

first_imgReport: Fannie and Freddie Ignored Warnings on Potential Problem Loans in Government, Secondary Market About four years after the “”Federal Housing Finance Agency””:http://fhfa.gov/ (FHFA) directed the GSEs to develop a uniform collateral data portal, the “”Office of the Inspector General of the Federal Housing Finance Agency””:http://fhfaoig.gov/ (FHFA OIG) finds the portal is not being used to its potential, and the GSEs continue to purchase loans with red flags.[IMAGE]After “”extensive”” development and testing, the OIG concluded in a “”recent audit””:http://fhfaoig.gov/Content/Files/AUD-2014-008.pdf, “”more remains to be done to use the portal’s data to minimize the risk of loss.””Both enterprises continue to purchase loans despite warning messages from the portal, according to a report the OIG released Thursday.Fannie Mae purchased 56,000 loans for a total of $13 billion from January through June of last year despite warnings from the portal indicating the loans might not meet the GSE’s underwriting requirements, according to the OIG.Meanwhile, Freddie Mac purchased 29,000 loans for a total of $6.7 billion from June through September despite warnings regarding the properties’ valuations, according to the OIG.Each of the 56,000 loans purchased by Fannie Mae came with between one and nine caution messages regarding the loan’s quality.[COLUMN_BREAK]The messages dealt with such issues as confirmation of repairs and “”unauthorized use of single-family loan funds,”” according to the OIG, and in each case the warning message was disregarded using an automatic override.Fannie Mae purchased the loans and “”focused its efforts on reviewing the loans for conformance with its requirements after it bought them,”” according to the OIG.Fannie Mae reportedly “”did not require lenders to explain or resolve potential problems ranging from formatting issues to violations of its underwriting requirements,”” according to the OIG.Similarly, Freddie Mac purchased more than 29,000 loans despite the portal’s warning that “”either no property value could be provided or the value of the property was in question,”” according to the OIG. In fact, in some cases the portal could not even verify that the address existed.Like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac’s approach was to override the warnings and review the loans for issues after purchasing them.In fact, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac both claimed they did not want to “”burden lenders with having to respond to messages,”” according to the OIG.The OIG audit also detected 414,000 instances in which the portal found that an appraiser’s license could not be verified. The “”uniform collateral data portal is intended to improve appraisal data quality and risk management for the Enterprises by collecting appraisal data to help them make informed decisions about the loans they buy,”” the OIG reported.””However, as demonstrated by the results of this audit, these goals are at risk of not being achieved,”” the OIG stated. On the bright side, the audit did cause the GSEs to consider 23 loans totaling $3.4 million for repurchase. Theywill start, while teammate Patrick Peterson will join themat the game as a kick returner. Nevada officials reach out to D-backs on potential relocation Cardinals expect improving Murphy to contribute right away Comments   Share   “We’re honored to have three guys from our team that werenamed to the Pro Bowl,” Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhuntsaid. “Especially since Larry and Adrian were both namedstarters.”Whisenhunt said it recognizes what his players bring tothe team, a squad that has rebounded from a horrid startto finish the year strong.“Obviously we fell short of our team goal of making theplayoffs, but it’s nice to see some guys be rewarded forthe individual efforts,” he said. All three Cardinals deserve the honor, as Fitzgerald hasposted a monster season with more than 1,200 yards andeight touchdowns while catching passes from shaky QBs,Wilson has played through injuries in what has been abounce-back campaign and Peterson, the rookie, has beendominant as a punt returner. “The thing that makes you happy is seeing Adrian go, andPatrick go and Darnell be an alternate,” Fitzgerald said.“Guys on our team being recognized for the things they’vedone well this year.”And sure, a case could be made for both Darnell Dockettand Calais Campbell, but the Cardinals are a far cry fromthe team that would send one player each year – punterScott Player – and that just further proves that these arenot your father’s Cardinals, because they actually havetalent on the roster. Of course, Wilson has been an elite safety the last fewyears.“I may not have had the big impact plays as I’ve had inprevious years,” Wilson said, “but to consistently go outthere and do it, I think that’s what sets you apart fromother guys.“Other guys may have one good year, but you have toconsistently do it year in, year out, and that, to me, Ithink that’s what makes you a Pro Bowl player.”So does simply making plays, which is how Peterson got thenod this year. Drafted as a cornerback and returner, hisfour punt return touchdowns have been huge for the teamand brought plenty of attention to his game. But, Petersonsaid he didn’t really think of making the game untilrecently.“It was off my mind, pretty much, throughout the wholeyear until the back half of the season,” he said. Hauck bill approved by House will protect children during invasive treatments

Posted on | 2 Comments

first_img Categories: Hauck News,News State Rep. Roger Hauck today announced the Michigan House approved his plan calling for health care professionals and facilities to document invasive procedures on patients in medical reports and keep the documentation on file for 15 years.“When it comes to these invasive procedures, especially involving minors, we must have medical professionals maintain their reporting for patients undergoing these treatments,” said Hauck, of Union Township. “We found during the Larry Nassar inquiry that his reporting for these procedures was inconsistent at best or simply destroyed. The medical community must meet a higher standard to protect both the patients and health care officials.”Hauck’s bill partners with other legislation, which will:Require the state Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine to issue publicly available guidance materials to health care professionals on intravaginal medical treatments;Require any medical treatment consisting of vaginal or anal penetration to be referenced on the patient’s medical record; andRequire the preservation of a patient’s medical record that includes vaginal or anal penetration treatment for 15 years.Any medical professional or health care facility that intentionally violates Hauck’s bill would face up to two years imprisonment for the first offense, then up to five years for the second or repeated violations.Hauck’s legislation is part of a 28-bill bipartisan package approved by the House to increase protections to Michigan’s residents in the wake of the Nassar sex abuse scandal.“This plan was developed over 19 hours of committee testimony,” Hauck said. “We have to do a better job to protect our families and neighbors from sexual assault. Medical professionals spoke up before this committee. So did survivors of Nassar’s crimes, college administrators, parents and retired judges. That has developed solutions to set a higher standard of protecting our loved ones, while strengthening punishments against anyone who victimizes children.”House Bill 5784 advances to the Senate for its consideration. 24May Hauck bill approved by House, will protect children during invasive treatmentslast_img read more

first_img Categories: Hernandez News,News 15Nov Rep. Hernandez selected to lead powerful Michigan House Appropriations Committee State Rep. Shane Hernandez of Port Huron today was named House Appropriations Committee chair for the 2019-2020 legislative session by Speaker-elect Lee Chatfield, a vital leadership position tasked with continuing Michigan’s economic momentum while representing hard-working taxpayers in state budget decisions.“I am proud and honored to serve Michigan in this important capacity and I’d like to thank Speaker-elect Chatfield for his support and confidence,” said Hernandez, who is believed to be the Michigan House’s first Hispanic appropriations chair. “I grew up in a family that worked hard for every dollar earned, so I am committed to spending taxpayer dollars wisely while maintaining the essential services our state needs to grow and thrive. Residents across our state, including Sanilac and St. Clair counties, are demanding better roads and schools without breaking the bank to deliver them. That will be my mission as my colleagues and I look to move Michigan forward.”Hernandez was first elected to the Michigan House in 2016 and was re-elected this month for a second two-year term. He already has valuable experience on the committee that helps shape Michigan’s state government budget, serving on the appropriations panel for the current 2017-18 legislative session.Hernandez helped reduce overall state spending while ramping up efforts to improve Michigan’s roads and schools. As chair of a subcommittee focused on transportation issues, he fought for ways to fix Michigan’s roads through smarter spending and more efficient planning.Hernandez has championed a plan that would encourage the Michigan Department of Transportation to test new ideas to build better and more cost-effective roads. Hernandez also is a decorated defender of Michigan’s job providers, having received the “Guardian of Small Business” award from the National Federation of Independent Business. He is noted for his commitment to limited government and fiscal responsibility.“I will fight to protect taxpayers across our state, helping deliver the best return and value possible on their hard-earned money,” Hernandez said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep Michigan’s comeback going strong and make our state an even better place to live.”###last_img read more

first_img LANSING, Mich. — Rep. Annette Glenn, R-Midland, Friday said her highest legislative priority — reducing the cost of car insurance for drivers in Bay and Midland counties – will now become a reality. With an overwhelming bipartisan majority, the Michigan House of Representatives voted 94-15 to approve historic landmark legislation to reform the state’s no-fault automobile insurance system on Friday—reflecting the successful negotiations between Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Republican-led legislature.“Bringing down the cost of car insurance for families and businesses in Bay and Midland counties has been my highest legislative priority since day one, and I was proud to cast my vote today for a bipartisan plan that after decades of failed attempts, will finally make that rate relief a reality and leave more money in people’s pockets,” Glenn said. “This landmark legislation guarantees lower rates for all drivers and implements lasting reforms that will control costs now and in the future, something particularly important for senior citizens, middle class and lower income families struggling to make ends meet, and small businesses that already face a big bill at the pump for delivering their products or services.”The House approved legislation guaranteeing lower rates by giving drivers more choice on personal injury protection coverage, stopping price gouging on medical services for car accident victims and combating fraudulent claims. Senate Bill 1 now heads to the state Senate for final legislative approval, and then to the governor, who is expected to sign them into law.The landmark legislation will end Michigan’s dubious distinction as the state with the most expensive car insurance rates in the nation. BT TV is to offer Skys Sky Sports 1 and 2 premium

Posted on | 2 Comments

first_imgBT TV is to offer Sky’s Sky Sports 1 and 2 premium channels on its YouView boxes from today after securing an interim rulling from the Competition Appeals Tribunal.Sky’s two premium channels will be added to the existing BT Sport, ESPN and Eurosport services on YouView, giving BT viewers to option to watch an extended range of Premier League football from a single source. The move means that BT will be able to discontinue selling its older Vision+ boxes, which had previously been necessary to view Sky Sports.BT will offer the two channels for £22 (€28) as a package or for £16.50 individually, with customers able to opt in and out of taking the channels at 30 days’ notice.BT and Sky have been engaged in a long-running dispute over the availability of the latter’s sport channels on YouView, with BT complaining that Sky proved unwilling to give it access on fair and reasonable terms and Sky countering that BT insisted on selling its own channels directly to customers on the satellite platform rather than wholesaling them to Sky. BT secured a ruling from the Court of Appeal in February that found that the Competition Appeals Tribunal’s earlier overturning of a ‘wholesale must offer’ ruling by Ofcom was based on inadequate assessment of the evidence.“We are delighted to now be able to offer a stronger range of premium sports programming on our YouView boxes, adding to the recent launch of Netflix,” said Delia Bushell, managing director of BT TV and BT Sport.“The ability to bundle together great content on our most advanced set top box will underpin our aim to sell BT TV to more of our broadband customers and to accelerate the number of our customers who take a triple play bundle from us. At the moment we’ve got our best-ever offer available – BT Infinity, BT TV with YouView, BT Sport and Netflix for £5.99 for the first six months. Customers who want to add Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 can now add that option, whereas previously they would have had to take the Vision+ box and a different deal.”last_img read more

About 65% of customers subscribe to triple-play services. The acquisition also includes Cablevision’s enterprise-focused business unit Lightpath, local television news network News 12 Networks and publishing outfit Newsday Media Group, as well as Cablevision’s advertising sales division.Cablevision generated US$6.525 billion in revenue and US$1.858 billion in operating cash flow in the year to June. The deal places Altice, owner of assets including Numericable-SFR in France and Portugal Telecom, at the heart of the consolidation of US cable.According to Altice, Cablevision and Suddenlink will draw upon management from both companies creating a leading communications services and technology group in the US market with 4.6 million customers in 20 states. Both companies will benefit from this national platform and from operating efficiencies and economies of scale, according to Altice.“As a family business we are proud to be entrusted by the Dolan family with the ownership of Cablevision and look forward to continuing the pioneering path they have paved for us. The strategy of Altice in the large and highly strategic US market is reinforced with the acquisition of Cablevision. We will be in a stronger position, as in all other markets in which we operate, to deliver the best services, invest in the most advanced technology, and develop innovative products for the benefit of our customers,” said Drahi.“We are very excited about our acquisition of Cablevision, which has developed into a pre-eminent cable operator under the steady, long-term ownership of the Dolan Family. In June, it reported 71% growth in SVOD subscribers year-on-year, following a relaunch in April. The comparative figure for the year to March was 83% growth in SVOD customers.Maxdome grew its pay VOD revenues by 21% over the year. Outgoing chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels, also speaking on the call, said that SVOD revenues were growing faster than transactional sales, while the advertising VOD business was also growing strongly. The service, which is also distributed by cable operator Tele Columbus and has deals in place with other service providers and retail groups, renewed a distribution agreement with Liberty Global-owned cable operator Unitymedia in the quarter.ProSiebenSat.1’s digital activities posted solid overall growth in the quarter, helping lift the group’s overall performance significantly. MCN business Studio71 saw strong growth in the quarter, and ProSiebenSat.1 CEO Thomas Ebeling told analysts that the network was now entering the Spanish-language market, signing up a YouTube content creator who he said was positioned “amongst the top 10 channels in Spain”. Ebeling said that Studio71 was “further internationalising its business”.ProSiebenSat.1’s non-audiovisual digital activities fared less well.
